SPNI's New Youth Empowerment Program Great Success
Teenagers from across the country recently finished our new Socio-environmental Empowerment Program. This program took place in 30 schools and culminated with our annual Youth Conference and Activity Day on June 3rd. Participants gathered together from across the country for a fun day of activities and lectures.
A new initiative developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Education in collaboration with SPNI and ‘Green Course’, the program took place throughout the past academic year and focused on engaging Israeli youth in environmental activism and social justice. The program equipped youth with the skills to become leaders of Israeli society now and in the future, encouraged them to develop their own innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and to develop a community project that would have a significant impact on nature and the environment.
The Conference and Activity day was held on the beautiful grounds of Givat Haviva Youth Village, near Hadera. Students took part in activities and celebrated the successful conclusion of the program. During the morning students enjoyed SPNI guided hikes of the local area. In the afternoon students were fascinated as Adi Lustig told her amazing story of her part in the battle to save Palmachim beach when still a teenager, letting the audience know that youth is no obstacle if you have passion.
Due to the success of the program and its considerable impact, together with our partners, we will be doubling the size of the program to include 60 schools next year.
