The Urban Way

Proper urban development is vital for both the preservation of nature throughout Israel as well as improving the quality of life within our cities.  The neglection of current neighborhoods in favor of building new ones is an harmful trend, not a viable solution.  That being said, thanks to work from organizations such as SPNI, this trend is starting to change.  There are now over 100 parks in cities such as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa.  In addition to parks, there is growing investments in creating bicycle paths in Tel Aviv.  These advancements are just the beginning.  The transportation system still needs to be improved through the repair of roads, creation of bus lanes, and a light rail system in Tel Aviv.  Another major task is creating a shift towards urban density instead of city expansion. This is a necessity in order to protect Israel’s remaining open spaces from being consumed.
