23 Dec Lupines in the Land of David and Goliath
Event Details:
Date: February 23, 2025
Time: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Address: Meeting at the Nili and David Jerusalem Bird Observatory
Experience the beauty of Israel’s spring flowers as we explore the famous Lupine Hill (Tel Socho) in Emek Ha’Ela. The tall blue lupines cover the hillsides, surrounded by a variety of colorful flowers. As we walk, we’ll search for the foundations of the ancient city that once stood here during the time of King David, and hear about its connection to the biblical battle with Goliath.
After a picnic lunch, we’ll head to the Madras Ruins (Hirbet Midras), where we’ll explore the caves and ruins used during the Bar Kochba Revolution, including unique pyramid-shaped tombs.
The walk is easy to moderate, with some uphill and downhill sections along uneven paths through the hills (approx. 5-6 km).
Guided in English.
