In Search of Sooty Falcons: A Birding Excursion in the Desert

With Meidad Goren, Director of the Ramat Hanegev Birding Center

Event Details

Date: Sunday, September 28, 2025
Time: 10:30 – 21:30
Pickup: Jerusalem (10:30) and Beit Shemesh (11:00)

Join Meidad Goren, Director of the Ramat Hanegev Birding Center, for a special journey to learn about his work protecting these iconic falcons. Our safari vans will take us deep into Nahal Zin – the largest wadi in the Negev – with stops for desert birdwatching and chances to spot migratory species.

At Ein Akev, we’ll enjoy an easy-to-moderate 1–2 km walk to the spring, keeping our eyes on the cliffs for birds of prey and in the bushes for smaller species drawn to the water. The tour will continue along the Oil Pipe Route and Zin Field before returning to our starting point.

For adults and children over 13
No prior birding experience needed. Guiding in English.
Trip dependent on minimum participants.

Cost:
450 NIS | 400 NIS for SPNI & English Bird Club members
